Better Hamas' bluntness than the PLO's manipulation and deception

...You have to give Hamas activists credit for their candor. They always employ the same historical analogy, the one where their prophet, Muhammad, massacred the Jews of Khaybar, ordering his troops to first sever the heads of some 700 Jews and then bury them in a ditch in the Arabian city of Medina, then plundered the Jews' property. The women and children were sold into bondage and the prophet took for himself one of the captives.

During an interview with Israeli TV following the announcement of Palestinian "reconciliation," former Homefront Defense Minister and Shin Bet chief Avi Dichter used a metaphor that keenly encapsulates Hamas' intentions toward Israel.

According to Dichter, if you were to wring out the Hamas charter, vast amounts of blood would drip from its pages -- blood that's been spilled already, and blood Hamas is still planning to spill. Murderous calls of "Khaybar Khaybar ya Yahud, jeysh Muhammad soufa ya'ud" ("Jews, remember Khaybar, the army of Muhammad is returning"), which we heard over the weekend during the funerals of the brothers Awadallah, two "martyrs" and Jew killers, exemplify Hamas' intention to slaughter the Jewish people.

You have to give Hamas activists credit for their candor. During last weekend's funeral, which was literally held on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' front porch in Ramallah, there was even a "moderate speaker" who expressed his willingness to help finance the emigration of Jews who prefer staying alive from "Palestine" to their original homelands.

The manifestation of violence -- organized under the auspices of the PA in Ramallah -- shattered the delusions of those who believed that just as the terrorist Palestine Liberation Organization agreed to peace talks with Israel, so too would Hamas. It turns out, much to our deep regret, that the PLO never underwent a sea change and never adjusted its ultimate goal of eliminating Israel in order to build Palestine on its ruins.

Better Hamas' bluntness than the PLO's manipulation and deception, predicated on the Islamic teaching: "Al-harb, khudaa," or in English: The war, deception. Throughout the peace process, we could have studied its "multistage plan" for Israel's destruction simply by browsing internal PA documents and publications, including statements and speeches at "home."

The vigilant among us (such as the Middle East Research Institute and Palestinian Media Watch) monitor educational programs, radio and TV broadcasts and religious leaders' declamations at mosques under the PA's jurisdiction. Unfortunately it turns out that even the "moderate" PLO won't pull back even an inch from its agenda for our destruction, despite the peaceful rhetoric directed at Israel and the West. As the Arabic saying goes: "You don't pay customs for words." And to think, the Israeli Left justifies such comments as being made "out of domestic concerns" while chastising Israeli "stubbornness."

The peace talks crisis let the Palestinian cat out of the bag of lies. There were no excuses for the settlements, borders, prisoners or any of the other niggling obstacles apparently standing between the Palestinian nation and ourselves. The Palestinians simply refused to recognize a Jewish state alongside a Palestinian state because they claim exclusive rights to all of "Palestine." Recognizing Israel as Jewish means there will be no "return" for Palestinian refugees, a demand that would ultimately spell Israel's devastation.

The PLO and Hamas' platforms (the two had been divided until now over "jobs" and the "method" of destruction and eventual lordship) blended again when a senior PA official, Azzam al-Ahmad, postured "peace" in Gaza: "No recognizing Israel as the Jewish state," and "yes to the right of return." Such statements exposed "Juha's nail," upon which, a long time ago, the PLO and Hamas hung their explosive belts scheming Israel's ultimate leveling.

One could pass off former PA intelligence chief and Palestinian minister Jibril Rajoub's statement, in which he vowed to liberate all of Palestine while declaring that if the Palestinian had had an atomic bomb, they would have used it on the Israeli "cancer," as basic "populism." When Fatah Central Committee member Tawfiq Tirawi told Hezbollah TV, and this was just last week, that "the homeland is all of Palestine ... from the [Jordan] river to the sea, according to Fatah's basic principles," well, that too could just be "rhetoric" addressing "domestic concerns."

On the eve of Hamas' takeover of the PLO -- whether by desire, force or elections -- it appears as though Hamas rule in the territories, similar to Gaza, would be better than the PA's contrived deception, designed to bring about the piecemeal destruction of the Jewish state while simultaneously duping the West and harnessing its political pressure. As for the Shariah enclave that will develop between us and Jordan, the Jewish state will have no problem isolating it and deterring it economically, militarily and politically.
