Amidror revelation raises questions about basis for quiet for quiet policy

...Suffice it to say that If National Security Advisor Amidror didn't know about the long range rockets that PM Netanyahu, DM Yaalon and pretty much everyone else in a decision making position didn't know. This is not a minor matter.

Maj.-Gen. (res.) Yaakov Amidror served as the National Security Advisor of Israel from May 2011 until November 2013.

As National Security Advisor Amidror was privy to intelligence information from literally all Israeli intelligence agencies and services.

On Chanel 2 TV News this evening, Yaakov Amidror remarked that he was surprised that there were rockets in the Gaza Strip that could reach beyond Tel Aviv.

It turns out that there are rockets in the Gaza Strip that can almost reach our northern border!

And we are not talking about just one rocket.

Salvos of such long range rockets have been launched from the Gaza Strip.

Given that Egypt shut down most of the smuggling tunnels from Sinai to the Gaza Strip even before Amidror left his position last November, it is reasonable to assume that the rockets that surprised him now were already in the Gaza Strip when he served as National Security Advisor.

Suffice it to say that If National Security Advisor Amidror didn't know about the long range rockets that PM Netanyahu, DM Yaalon and pretty much everyone else in a decision making position didn't know.

This is not a minor matter.

Because PM Netanyahu consistently backed DM Yaalon's "quiet for quiet" policy recommendation.

And a very crucial underpinning of the "quiet for quiet" policy is the estimate of how far the terrorists are upgrading their offensive capabilities under the cover of "quiet for quiet".

These days Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is pushing for a return to "quiet for quiet" with a long term goal of also demilitarizing the Gaza Strip.

A more pessimistic/realistic projection of what the terrorists can achieve under a return to "quiet for quiet" could serve to compel our national leaders to make the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip the priority it should be.
