UNESCO decision a reminder that world can't be relied on for rights in Jerusalem - by Dr. Aaron Lerner

...While the people who have been pushing all these years for Israel to relinquish sovereignty over portions of Jerusalem in exchange for some half-baked scheme won't be fazed by the UNESCO vote, the vote serves to further convince the Israeli majority that such schemes are indeed downright silly.

UNESCO's vote on Thursday that disregards Judaism's historic connection to the Temple Mount and casts doubt on the link between Judaism and the Western Wall does indeed, as Palestinian officials noted, send a clear message to Israel from the international community.

Reminder: All the various schemes to relinquish Israeli sovereignty over portions of Jerusalem hinge on the efficacy of third party intervention to insure the preservation of Jewish rights in the city.

And the "clear message from the international community" is that it will not respect Jewish rights in the city.

Not even Jewish rights at the Western Wall that UNESCO relegated to the Moslems.

I have no illusions.

While the people who have been pushing all these years for Israel to relinquish sovereignty over portions of Jerusalem in exchange for some half-baked scheme won't be fazed by the UNESCO vote, the vote serves to further convince the Israeli majority that such schemes are indeed downright silly.
